Does Gaia really exist…or not?

I just finished readingย Gaia โ€“ Yes or No ? (12-18 yr old) by Mike Farmer, andย I have to say I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with the idea that Gaia exist.

Gaia is originally from Greek mythology. She is the humanoid representation of Earth, and the mother of all gods. The Gaia theory (by James Lovelock) argues that the Earth must be a “single living, self-regulating system”, since Earth seems to have evolved on its own.

This is a controversial subject that some people are going to agree with, and others are going to disagree with.

I think there’s really no way of knowing for sure whether or not the Earth is animate. It’s like religion, there will be people who believe in a god or multiple gods, and there will be others who believe that the world works on science and physics.

So, in conclusion, the world is full of mysteries that are controversial today. We might find some evidence in the future, and we might not. But isn’t that what makes the world mysterious? ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Hey Zelda,
This is a really good post, i enjoyed reading it since it was well written. I like the way you expressed your opinion in different ways as if you were two different people. I completely agree with what you said. Thank you for expressing your feelings.

  2. wow, this really made me think… this is careful & well written, I like it! I think that I agree with the notion that it could be both… how could we ever tell, anyway? great post!

  3. Hey Zelda,
Really great post and enjoy your view in your post how you address both sides of the argument. Would love to see more of this style of argument.

  4. Hi Zelda,

I really enjoyed it and I can clearly see that you put in a lot of effort. About your post, I think you’re right in saying that there’s no way of knowing, because if there is a Gaia, then that would be what makes the earthquakes and tsunami and etc. If Gaia is not real then it must be just what James Lovelock said, ‘Earth seems to have evolved on its own’.
